https://drive.google.com/uc?export=view&id=1bhLRhum3l4ioKJZAqsSx5W7Z9ANFHaS1Modak is a traditional Indian sweet dumpling that is commonly made during festivals, especially during Ganesh Chaturthi. It is made using rice flour or wheat flour dough filled with a sweet coconut and jaggery (or sugar) mixture. Here's a recipe for making modak:

Ingredients: For the outer covering:

  • 1 cup rice flour
  • 1 cup water
  • 1 teaspoon ghee (clarified butter)
  • A pinch of salt

For the filling:

  • 1 cup grated coconut
  • 1 cup powdered jaggery (or sugar)
  • 1/2 teaspoon cardamom powder
  • 1 tablespoon ghee
  • A handful of chopped nuts (optional)

Instructions:

  1. Prepare the Filling:

    • Heat a pan on medium heat and add ghee to it.
    • Add the grated coconut and sauté for a few minutes until it turns slightly golden.
    • Add the powdered jaggery (or sugar) and mix well until it melts and combines with the coconut.
    • Cook for a few more minutes until the mixture thickens slightly.
    • Add cardamom powder and chopped nuts (if using). Mix well and remove from heat.
    • Allow the filling to cool completely.
  2. Prepare the Outer Covering:

    • In a separate pan, heat water and ghee together.
    • Once the water comes to a boil, add a pinch of salt.
    • Reduce the heat to low and gradually add the rice flour while stirring continuously to avoid lumps.
    • Mix well until the dough forms a smooth consistency and starts leaving the sides of the pan.
    • Remove from heat and allow it to cool slightly.
  3. Shaping the Modaks:

    • Take a small portion of the rice flour dough and shape it into a small ball.
    • Roll the ball into a small circular disc using your fingers or a rolling pin. Make the edges thinner than the center.
    • Place a spoonful of the coconut-jaggery filling in the center of the disc.
    • Gently bring the edges of the disc together and pinch them at the top to seal the modak.
    • Repeat the process for the remaining dough and filling.
  4. Steaming the Modaks:

    • Place the modaks in a greased steamer or an idli stand.
    • Steam them for about 10-12 minutes on medium heat or until the modaks are cooked and become slightly shiny.
  5. Serving:

    • Once the modaks are steamed, remove them from the steamer and allow them to cool for a few minutes.
    • Modaks are traditionally served as an offering to Lord Ganesha during festivals. You can also serve them as a sweet treat.
    • They can be stored in an airtight container for a few days.

Enjoy the delicious homemade modaks as a delightful sweet treat or as part of your festive celebrations!
