Recipe of cooking egg shakshuka
Shakshuka is a delicious and flavorful Middle Eastern dish made with poached eggs in a tomato and bell pepper sauce. It's a popular choice for breakfast or brunch, but can be enjoyed any time of the day. Here's a recipe to make egg shakshuka:
Ingredients:
- 2 tablespoons olive oil
- 1 onion, diced
- 1 red bell pepper, diced
- 1 yellow bell pepper, diced
- 3 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 teaspoon ground cumin
- 1 teaspoon ground paprika
- 1/2 teaspoon ground cayenne pepper (optional, for heat)
- 1 can (14 ounces) diced tomatoes
- Salt and pepper to taste
- 4-6 large eggs
- Fresh parsley or cilantro, chopped (for garnish)
Instructions:
Heat the olive oil in a large skillet or frying pan over medium heat.
Add the diced onion and sauté until it becomes translucent, about 5 minutes.
Add the diced bell peppers to the skillet and cook for another 5 minutes, until they begin to soften.
Stir in the minced garlic, ground cumin, ground paprika, and cayenne pepper (if using). Cook for 1-2 minutes, until the spices become fragrant.
Pour in the canned diced tomatoes with their juice. Season with salt and pepper to taste. Stir well to combine all the ingredients.
Reduce the heat to low and let the sauce simmer for about 10-15 minutes, allowing the flavors to meld together and the sauce to thicken slightly.
Make small wells or indentations in the sauce with a spoon. Crack the eggs into each well, being careful not to break the yolks.
Cover the skillet with a lid or aluminum foil and cook for about 8-10 minutes, or until the eggs are cooked to your desired doneness. For runny yolks, cook for less time, and for fully cooked yolks, cook for a longer period.
Remove the skillet from the heat and garnish with chopped parsley or cilantro.
10. Serve the shakshuka directly from the skillet, scooping out the sauce and eggs onto individual plates or bowls. It can be enjoyed with crusty bread, pita, or even rice.
